After apostdoctoral fellowship inmolecular immunolo gy at the NIH, Bethesda, USA he completed his training in Neurology at the National Institute for Nervous Disease, London, UK and the University of Göttingen, Germany. Professor Rieckmann received German Board certification in Neurology in 1995. His academic and clinical positions have included Senior (staff) Neurologist and Professor for Neurology, Dept. of Neurology, as well as head of the Clinical Research Group for Multiple Sclerosis and Neuroimmunology, at the Julius-Mximilians University of Würzburg. In 2007 Professor Rieckmann became the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada Research Chair and Director of the MS Program and Full Tenured Professor at the University of British Columbia, Vancou ver, Canada. Under his leadership the Vancouver MS clinical research program was awarded Western-Pacific Research and Training Center by the MS Society of Canada. He is a founding member of the EndMS campaign in Canada and was instrumental in establishing the Center for Brain Health at UBC in Vancouver (http://www.centreforbrainhealth.ca ). After a medical internship at Northwestern Memorial Hospital, he completed his neurology residency and clinical neurophysiology fellowship at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. He graduated from McGill University neurology program before completing a fellowship in Neuroimmunology and neurological infections at Johns Hopkins University.
