Abubaker Al Madani MD

Dr. Abu Baker Al Madani completed his undergraduate certificate in 1997 from the University of Gothenburg, Sweden. In Gothernburg University, he was involved in teaching and contributed in research study with Dr. Anders Hamberger in neuroprotective agents in acute stroke. Then, he completed his Canadian Royal College in Neurology (FRCPC) in 2009. 

Dr. Madani had his residency at the University of Toronto which is ranked number 1 in Canada by Royal College of Canada, and ranked number 4 in the whole North America by American Academy of Neurology. He was personally involved in regional stroke program and he was involved in at least 500 stroke cases and 80 TPA cases. In his residency he also did one whole elective year which involves EEG, research, pathology and nerve conduction studies. By finishing the residency, he was able to manage neurological cases as general neurological cases as general neurologist in 2007. He has his fellowship in neuromuscular subspecialty from 2007 to 2009. 

Ahmed Shatila MD

Dr. Ahmed Osman Shatila obtained his BSc in Biology from the Wayne State University in the United States He continued his medical education from the medical college of Wayne State University. Dr. Shatila’s conducted a residency in neurology at Wayne State University and continued his fellowship in neurophysiology. 

Dr. Shatila’s interest’s include inpatient Neurology, but not limited to Stroke, IV TPA program development and Status Epilepticus. He is also interested in helping facilities develop a Neuro Hospitalist model where the inpatient care can develop independently from the outpatient services. 

This includes a combination of patients, resident and nursing education, inpatient consulting services and inpatient neurology services. Dr. Shatila is also the head of Multiple Sclerosis clinic at Mafraq Hospital as well.

Anu Jacob, MD

​Dr. Anu Jacob, MD, DM, FRCP, is a Staff Physician in the Neurological Institute and Director of Multiple Sclerosis and Autoimmune Neurology at Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi.

Prior to joining Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, Dr. Jacob was a consultant neurologist at the Walton Center for neurology and neurosurgery in Liverpool, United Kingdom.

Dr. Jacob received his medical degree and internal medicine residency from Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research, India and neurological certification (DM) training at Sri Chitra Tirunal Institute, Thiruvananthapuram, India. He received his Membership of the Royal College of Physicians and Neurology Board certification in the UK and completed his fellowship in Multiple Sclerosis and Neuromyelitis Optica at Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minnesota.

Dr. Jacob served as the National Director for the United Kingdom NHS specialist service for Neuromyelitis optica and he was also the Director for multiple sclerosis services for North Wales, caring for more than 1000 patients affected by the condition. Whilst in the UK, Dr Jacob set up the National NMO service (the first ever comprehensive NMO service in the world) and was awarded the  Royal College of physicians Excellence in patient care award for his work that changed the lives of patients with NMO in UK.

Dr. Jacob is passionate about education and research and published 3 doctoral theses during his training. Putting his knowledge and skills into practice he has published more than 100 peer reviewed research articles and several book chapters and he was the Chief /Principal or co-investigator for several clinical trials on MS or NMO and has received several research grants. He enjoys teaching at all levels and regularly lectures medical students and nurses, is an examiner for PHD degrees both in UK and abroad and has given more than 100 lectures across the world including at the American Academy of Neurology, European Committee for Treatment and Research in Multiple Sclerosis (ECTRIMS) and British Neurological Association. ​​​​​​​

Dr. Derk Krieger

Dr. Krieger is a very experienced neurologist with special interests in cerebrovascular disease, stroke, headache, neuromuscular and movement disorders, neuroimmunology, brain plasticity and interventional rehabilitation procedures.

Prior to moving to Dubai he was Professor of Neurology and Chairman of the Comprehensive Stroke Center at Rigshospitalet in Copenhagen, Denmark and was Associate Professor of Neurology at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation for 10 years until 2008. He continues to hold an adjunct professorship at the University of Zurich, Switzerland.

Dr. Krieger studied in Germany and then undertook his Fellowship in Neurocritical Care from Tufts University in Boston, USA. He held several academic positions at UT Houston and Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland Ohio. He is a Fellow of the European Stroke Organization and a Fellow of the American Heart Association and remains actively involved in clinical research and teaching.

Maria Khan Junaidi completed her basic medical education from the Aga Khan University in Karachi, Pakistan from where she also did her post graduate training in neurology. Dr. Khan Junaidi did one year of training in Stroke neurology following which she got selected for an NIH funded program, International Cerebrovascular Translational Research Fellowship. As part of her fellowship, she completed a Masters in Epidemiology and Biostatistics in 2013. Since May 2014 she has been a part of the Rashid Hospital Neurology Service. Dr. Pournamy Sarathchandran

Sarathchandan Pournamy is presently working as Specialist Senior Registrar in Department of Neurology, Rashid Hospital, Dubai. She is also the Co-director of Neurology Residency Programme , Dubai Health Authority, Dubai. She previously worked as Assistant Professor in Department of Neurology, Srichitra Thirunal Institute, India. Dr. Pournamy completed her M.D in General Medicine from JIPMR in 2009 and D.M in Neurology from Srichitra Thirunal Institute of Medical Sciences and Technology in 2012. Dr. Pournamy was endowed with gold medals for medicine and neurology during her residency. Dr. Pierre Krystkowiak

After receiving his medical degree then Neurology qualification from the University of Lille 2, Lille, France, Dr Krystkowiak practised for 10 years as a specialist neurologist in Lille University Hospital.
Meanwhile, he passed his PhD in Biomechanics and Physiology of Motor Performance in 2003 (University of Paris-Sud, Orsay, France).

He was appointed Professor of Neurology in 2007 and moved to Amiens University Hospital and University of Picardie Jules Verne, Amiens, France, as a consultant neurologist. He also held academic positions such as Vice-President for Healthcare to the Scientific Board of the University of Picardie Jules Verne, and as Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Medicine. He was elected by his peers as Medical Director of Amiens University Hospital, a position he held from 2015 to 2019.

He is presently on leave from the University of Picardie Jules Verne and has joined Mediclinic Airport Road Hospital.

He has over 20 years of experience in the treatment of neurological diseases such as epilepsy, migraine and headache, multiple sclerosis and peripheral nerve and muscle diseases.
Furthermore, he has developed expertise in certain areas for which he is considered as a key opinion leader: movement disorders especially Parkinson's disease and related syndromes, Huntington disease, gait disorders and the use of botulinum toxin in neurological disorders. More than 20 years ago, he was one of the pioneers in developing treatment by deep brain stimulation for tremor and Parkinson’s disease, and afterwards, for dystonia and chorea.

As a PhD neuroscientist and an expert in clinical research, he has published over 100 articles in international peer reviewed journals, and as a key opinion leader, he serves as a consultant to a number of pharmaceutical companies (Novartis, Medtronic, Allergan, etc.) and to the French Ministry of Health Service as well.

He is a member of national and international societies such as the French Neurological Society, the Movement Disorders Society and the Huntington Study Group.

Dr. Ruqqia Mir

Completed by MBBS degree from University of Peshawar Pakistan and then went to London for further formal training in medicine. I obtained  Diploma in Internal medicine, in 1998 from Imperial College, Hammersmith hospital London. During this time also contributed to research in endocrinology in Hammersmith hospital UK. After completing MRCP in 2000 in London obtained Neurology Specialist training (CCST) in UK in 2010.

I have worked as a consultant neurologist in York Hospital before coming to Abu Dhabi in 2015.

I am currently working in SKMC as consultant neurologist.

I am a general neurologist with special interest in Headache disorders ,inflammatory and Neurodegenerative conditions including Multiple sclerosis.

I have obtained the Multiple Sclerosis Specialist Certification from American Professional Testing Corporation.

I have been awarded the clinical excellence award for my work with brain cancer patients in 2015 in York hospital.

Shivam Om Mittal, MD

Dr. Mittal received his medical degree from Datta Meghe University of Medical Sciences University in Wardha, India. He completed his neurology residency at University Hospitals Case Medical Center, Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland, Ohio, USA. He did postdoctoral fellowship in botulinum toxin treatment at the prestigious Yale University, where he initiated several clinical studies and streamlined unique treatment options for movement disorders. To pursue his interest further in the field of clinical movement disorders he completed a fellowship in parkinson’s disease and movement disorders at the Renowned Mayo Clinic, Minnesota, USA.

Dr. Mittal lives in Abu Dhabi with his wife and two sons. He enjoys cycling, listening to music and spending time with his family.

Dr. Taoufik Alsaadi, MD, FAAN

Dr. Alsaadi is a Chief Medical officer and the Chair of the Neurology Department at the American Center of Psychiatry & Neurology (ACPN). He was trained in Epilepsy and Clinical Neurophysiology at the University of California San Francisco and was a research fellow in Epilepsy there. He is board-certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology and by the American Board of Clinical Neurophysiology and by the American Board of Neurology in Clinical Epilepsy.  

Before joining ACPN, Dr. Alsaadi was the Chief of the Neurology Department at Sheikh Khalifa Medical City for 11 years. He was previously an associate Professor of Neurology and the Director of the Adult Epilepsy Program and the Clinical Research Program at the University of California Davis. His research has focused on conducting drug study trials for new anti-epileptic drugs for patients with epilepsy, quality of life in patients with epileptic and non-epileptic disorders, as well as other chronic neurological disorders, neuropsychiatric co-morbidities with various neurological disorders. Dr. Alsaadi has been honored with several prestigious awards for his work in the field of epilepsy. He has served on the Advisory Board of the Northern California Epilepsy Foundation and on the membership committee of the American Epilepsy Society. He has served as the President of the Western Clinical Neurophysiology Society in the United Sates and as the Vice President of CEMA (Commission of the Eastern Mediterranean Affairs). He is currently the President of the Emirati League against epilepsy. He also serves at the Editorial Board for BMC Journal of Neurology and Journal of Neurosciences. He has authored and co-authored more than 50 papers and book chapters and has served as a peer-reviewer for more than 15 scientific journals. 

Dr Vittorio Iantorno

Dr Iantorno is a Consultant Neurologist with 20 years of European experience in the field.

He completed all his studies in Rome (Italy) obtaining his Medical Degree in Medicine & Surgery then later qualifying as Italian Board of Neurology. He then moved to UK in 2001. For many years he was the Clinical Lead in Neurology/Head of Neurology Department in one of the largest Foundation Trusts in United Kingdom (Heart of England NHS Trust), a general, specialised and community care Hospital. He also acted as Chairperson of the local Parkinson’s Disease Operational Group. Dr Iantorno worked in various NHS Hospitals in UK including East Kent NHS Trust & King’s College Hospital in London (UK), Royal Free Hospital in London & Hertfordshire NHS Trust before moving for over a decade to Heart of England NHS Trust and then to Dubai in 2015. He has also brought to Dubai many years of invaluable experience in the Private Practice in the United Kingdom.

Dr Iantorno`s clinical skills have always been regarded by peer Colleagues and all patients of very high standards in the management of neurological diseases, assessing, investigating and treating neurological patients presenting with the whole spectrum of acute and chronic neurological conditions.
