Professor Ajith trained at St. Thomas’s Hospital Medical School in London, UK. He has trained and worked in the Institute of Neurology and National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery in London, Charing Cross and Westminster Hospitals in London, Newcastle, Manchester, and Edinburgh. He was a Consultant and Senior Lecturer in Newcastle.
Ajith moved to the UAE in 2009, and was Chief of Neurology at Mafraq Hospital from 2009-2019. He was Chair of the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee, and Chair of Medicine, from 2010 till 2019. In 2019 Professor Ajith moved the Neurology and Neurophysiology Departments to Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City (SSMC). Dr. Ali Hassan is Consultant and acting chief of neurology division, Tawam Hospital. After graduation from Assiut University in South Egypt, he had his further training in the residency program in the university hospitals which has more than 2000 beds and a highly advanced neurology department. He completed his master degree in neuroscience in 2003 and Medical Doctorate in neurology from Al-Azhar University in 2010. Dr. Ali has a long experience in neurology service in different Middle East teaching and tertiary hospitals. Dr. Abu Baker Al Madani completed his undergraduate certificate in 1997 from the University of Gothenburg, Sweden. Prof. Christian Lampl is currently Head of the Department of Neurology at the Konventhospital Barmherzige Brüder Linz, Director of the Headache Medical Center Linz and Chair of the Center of Integrative Medicine for Elderly at the Ordensklinikum Linz. Dr. Krieger is a very experienced neurologist with special interests in cerebrovascular disease, stroke, headache, neuromuscular and movement disorders, neuroimmunology, brain plasticity and interventional rehabilitation procedures.

In 2016 JP was appointed as Head of Undergraduate Medicine at the University of Glasgow School of Medicine. After qualifying in medicine from Glasgow, he had several training posts in his native city, culminating in his MD thesis in 1997 on the pharmacology and mechanisms of action of the new antiepileptic drugs. He had a six-year spell in Liverpool’s Walton Centre for Neurology and Neurosurgery training in neurology and clinical neurophysiology.
In 2002 he took up a post as a consultant neurologist covering epilepsy services in the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Glasgow. His clinical workload covers clinics dealing with established and newly diagnosed epilepsy as well as patients presenting with a first seizure.
JP has written one textbook and several book chapters including being lead author for Davidson’s Principles and Practice of Medicine. Dr Maria Oto is a consultant neuropsychiatrist and the lead clinician currently working at the Scottish Epilepsy Centre in Glasgow, which is the only residential centre for the assessment and management of epilepsy in Scotland. A third of the patients referred to the centre have a learning disability. Dr Oto has been working in the field of epilepsy for most of her career; initially at the Institute of Neurology in Glasgow and thereafter at the Scottish Epilepsy Centre.
Since 2014, Dr Oto has also been part of the multi-disciplinary team based at the West of Scotland regional epilepsy surgery program as well as leading the UK network of neuropsychiatrists involved in epilepsy surgery programs. Over the years, Dr Oto has been involved with research and published widely. In 2010 she completed a PhD on the diagnosis and management of psychogenic nonepileptic seizures which is one of her main research interests.
In 2017, she was the lead for a research project funded by the Scottish Government aiming to review the standards of epilepsy care of people with Learning Disabilities in Scotland. Dr Oto was also part of the team that reviewed the epilepsy SIGN guidelines in 2015. She is an honorary lecturer at Glasgow University, a member of the editorial board of Seizure, director of the Glasgow based charity Epilepsy Connections and chair of the Royal College of Psychiatrists epilepsy working group. Dr Oto is also a member of the ILAE British Branch Council executive, and leads the epilepsy training network for LD psychiatry trainees in Scotland.

Michael Strupp, MD, FRCP, FAAN, FANA, FEAN Professor of Neurology Department of Neurology and German Centre for Vertigo and Balance Disorders University Hospital Munich, Germany Michael Strupp studied medicine at the Technical University of Aachen and in Rochester, N.Y. Then he worked for three years in basic neurophysiological research, mainly doing patch-clamp recordings (at Baylor College, Houston, in Montpellier and in Munich), before he moved to the Department of Neurology at the University and the German Centre for Vertigo and Balance Disorders at the University of Munich, Germany.
His particular area of interest is the therapy of vestibular, ocular motor and cerebellar disorders. Some of his major achievements are: First, demonstration of the effectiveness of vestibular exercises in acute vestibular neuritis in a controlled clinical trial. Second, the benefit of steroids in acute vestibular neuritis, a placebo-controlled, four-arm trial published in the NEJM. Third, introduction of three new therapeutic principles: aminopyridines, as potassium channel blockers, for the treatment of downbeat, upbeat and central positioning nystagmus as well as episodic ataxia type 2; chlorzoxazone for the therapy of downbeat nystagmus; and, more recently, acetyl-DL-leucine for the treatment of certain ataxiasm namely Niemann-Pick Type C. Fourth, the development of new light and practical examination glasses for nystagmus: the “M glasses” and the “positional vertigo App”. He has been the principal investigator of eleven clinical trials. He is also very much engaged in the “International Classification of Vestibular Disorders”.
He has authored 437 PubMed listed papers (h-index 83, i10-index 300) and five books on vertigo, dizziness and ocular motor disorders. He is currently Editor-in-Chief of Frontiers in Neuro-otology, Joint Chief Editor of the Journal of Neurology and a Member of the Editorial Board of Neurology. He has received many clinical and scientific awards, including the Hallpike-Nylen Award 2106, the Investigator Award of the European Academy of Neurology 2019 and the Galenus von Pergamon Award 2020. He is a very passionate teacher and was awarded ‘Best Teacher’ by the German Neurological Society. Finally, he is a proud father of four children.

Prof. Nils Erik Gilhus has been a Professor of Neurology at the University of Bergen, Norway since 1987 and a consultant neurologist at Haukeland University Hospital since 1986. He chairs the Department of Clinical Medicine, University of Bergen. Gilhus has published more than 300 scientific papers, mainly on neuroimmunology and neuroepidemiology, centered on myasthenia gravis and epilepsy. Peter Rieckmann, MD, FRCPC, FAAN, FEAN Peter Rieckmann received his medical degree from the University of Göttingen, Germany in 1988. After a postdoctoral fellowship in molecular immunology at the NIH, Bethesda, USA he completed his training in Neurology at the National Institute for Nervous Disease, London, UK and the University of Göttingen, Germany. Professor Rieckmann received German Board certification in Neurology in 1995. His academic and clinical positions have included Senior (staff) Neurologist and Professor for Neurology, Dept. of Neurology, as well as head of the Clinical Research Group for Multiple Sclerosis and Neuroimmunology, at the Julius-Mximilians University of Würzburg.
In 2007 Professor Rieckmann became the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada Research Chair and Director of the MS Program and Full Tenured Professor at the University of British Columbia, Vancouver, Canada. Under his leadership the Vancouver MS clinical research program was awarded Western-Pacific Research and Training Center by the MS Society of Canada. He is a founding member of the EndMS campaign in Canada and was instrumental in establishing the Center for Brain Health at UBC in Vancouver (http://www.centreforbrainhealth.ca).
In September 2009 he started a new position as Chair of the Department of Neurology at the Academic Hospital in Bamberg, and Professor of Neurology at the University of Erlangen, Germany. Since 2012 he also serves as deputy medical director of the Academic Hospital in Bamberg. In the same year he started the MS in the 21st century steering group, a think tank of international experts and people with MS working on innovative principles of MS care and patient engagement.
Together with colleagues from cardiology, psychiatry, neurosurgery, vascula medicine and neuroradiology he raised funds for Germany’s first Heart and Brain Center.
In 2017 Prof. Rieckmann became medical director and head of the Hospital for Nervous diseases at Medical Park Loipl/Bavaria. There he has recently established the first German Center for Clinical Neuroplasticity and developed innovative digital tools for objective outcome parameters in neurorehabilitation as well as an interactive digital neurorehabilitation assistant. His major research interests are disease modifying factors and repair mechanisms in multiple sclerosis and stroke as well as improvement of rehabilitation strategies to facilitate neuroplasticity and to promote patient engagement in acute and chronic neurological diseases. Professor Rieckmann is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons Canada (FRCPC), Fellow of the American Academy of Neurology (FAAN) and European Academy of Neurology (FEAN). Richard B. Lipton, M.D., is the Edwin S. Lowe Professor and Vice Chair of Neurology, Professor of Epidemiology and Population Health and Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. Dr. Lipton earned his medical degree at the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine. After a medical internship at Northwestern Memorial Hospital, he completed his neurology residency and clinical neurophysiology fellowship at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. He also completed a fellowship in neuroepidemiology at Columbia University. He is a diplomate of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology and a fellow of the American Academy of Neurology.
His research focuses on cognitive aging, Alzheimer’s disease and migraine headaches. He is the Principal Investigator of the Einstein Aging Study, an NIH funded Program Project, and collaborates on several R01s. His research focuses on risk factors and biomarkers of cognitive decline and Alzheimer’s disease. His recent studies examine cognitive aging across the lifespan with an emphasis on the effects of pain and stress on brain function.
His headache research focuses on the epidemiology of migraine and on clinical trials. His epidemiologic studies have evaluated trigger factors for headache attacks and risk factors for headache progression. Dr. Lipton has published more than 800 original articles, many with trainees. He is a 5 time winner of the H.G. Wolff Award for excellence in headache research from the American Headache Society and a two time winner of the Enrico Greppi award from the European Headache Federation. Dr. Lipton is Director of the Montefiore Headache Center, an interdisciplinary subspecialty center focused on headache, patient care, research and education.
Dr. Lipton holds leadership positions in several professional societies. He is a Past-President of the American Headache Society (AHS). He serves on the editorial boards of several journals, including Neurology. He has written 11 books. Dr. Lipton enjoys mentoring medical students, residents, PhD students and fellows. Over the last decade he has mentored 7 CRTP students and 10 K-award recipients. He has received both the CRTP Mentor of the Year Award and the Einstein Faculty Mentoring Award.

Dr. Alsaadi is a Chief Medical officer and the Chair of the Neurology Department at the American Center of Psychiatry & Neurology (ACPN). He was trained in Epilepsy and Clinical Neurophysiology at the University of California San Francisco and was a research fellow in Epilepsy there. Prof. Limmroth is the Chairman of the Department of Neurology, Cologne City Hospitals, University of Cologne, Germany. After studying in Göttingen, Lausanne and Rio de Janeiro, Prof. Limmroth received his medical degree in 1989 from the University of Göttingen, Germany. He then completed a residency in Neurology with Prof. Hans-Christoph Diener in Essen, Germany. In 1993 he received grant of German National research Society (DFG) and completed from 1993-1996 a postdoc-fellowship with Prof. Michael A.
